The partners of the project have carried out an evaluation questionnaire to measure satisfaction and successfulness of the project according to beneficiaries/stakeholders.

From the questionnaire it seems that all beneficiaries are interested in the project and would disseminate it to friends and colleagues. "Sport in Mountains" and "Small Business in Mountains" were the most interesting guides and a great part of beneficiares would like to know more about "Small Business in Mountains".

The fountain is no more useful now (unappropriate quality of water) but the drinking water in the touristical complex comes from a capture of an underground spring and is better than any drinking water in any town!

The House Under Mulberry Tree is the ideal romantic place for 2 persons :D
Inside, in a small place, there are also the facilities as shower and toilet; people can sleep down on matrisses, wihch in fact is really comphortable.
There is my favourite place - but I suspect this was in fact the hen-cop :D

The corn crib (or hay crib) is arranged for sleeping in hay (up); down there is space for firewood or other things.

On the other side of House Under Stars there are places for the morning coffee, smoking or... for drying equipments :) When we were taking the images, a group of speologists camped in the tents, next to the house.

There is the most comfortable of the houses: a large room, a large bed, a sleeping place up-floor and a bathroom with all the facilities (hot water etc.). The heathing is ensured by a wood-plant, common for all the places.
The traditional aspect is kept as much as possible (including objects). The small house (with an excellent view) is wonderful for a family with children.

There is the exterior, 1st part; all the restorations were done in respect for tradition, with old materials when possible (the materials were treated, of course, with special non-toxic solutions).

The House Under Stars were in the past the pig-pen. In the backyard of the house there is a small platform for wastes, untill they are taken away. There is respected the principle of "waste separation".

Hay barn, outside

Outside the spaces were arranged in order to offer a minimum of hygienic facilities when there are many persons accomodated around (including tents): washstands and toilets; also, there are some other depository spaces.
Between the Hay Barn and the New House there is a playground for children - but children have anyway lots of trees, to climb in and eat local fruits ;)

This is the former hay barn; after renovation is used to be a sleeping place; right now, it kept the sleeping place up-floor. Down there is a depository space for different tools and also a space for leisure in the rainy days. One of the walls (opposite to the stair) is a climbing wall.

Here is a series of short movies with an example of "good practice in renovating an old farm, in order to offer eco-tourism services". Place: Rosia, Bihor County, Romania. First movie: general presentation of the place. You can see the old houses (which kept their tradional aspect), the places for eating when the weather is good and the place for barbecues.
Also, you can see Cristi (ARIN volonteer), Iza the dog, nea Mitica (the chef) and... Trompi, The Very Wild Carpathian Cat (saved from one street in my town - and very happy, now, with his host-friend ;)
In the Main House there was the meeting place for the EDU-MONT team - can you believe that there met and there worked 21 persons? :)

The best site for persons interrested by mountains in Romania, is the "Alpinet Project" - it started as a private project of some mountain lovers and, in a very short time, it became one of the most visited and used Romanian website.

It integrate also some discussion groups on e-mail. The site and the discussion groups were, along of the time, one of the best education tools for persons interrested by Romanian mountains, mountains environment and sustainable developement of mountain area - especially tourists. Also, it is one of the most friendly and active community in Romania.

Untill Jaunary 2011, 201 persons answered.

The ARIN survey was promoted on Internet, on the website of ARIN and on different Romanian e-groups. The other Romanian partner (Origini Verzi) had its own survey but mainly on printed questionnaire.

The integrated results of the survey (for all the partners) will be published in June 2011.

Meeting in Italy

The meeting in Italy held on 15 and 16 April 2011 has just finished in a positive way. All partners had constructive discussions on the final results and products of the project. Furthermore an excursion to the mountains (Mount Catria) with a Mountain coach has been carried out, in order to explore and experience the Mountain territory of the Province of Pesaro and Urbino, Marche Region.

The partners had the opportunity of having a mountain guide which has guided the whole group through the mountains, explaining how the territory is managed, the type of flora and fauna present and how the local community lives of the forests resources. The group continued the programme with a visit to the Castle of Frontone.

Education to Mountains

Education to mountains is also a way to promote cooperation between farmers and adult training institutions.

Previous results of an existing project aim to: enrich training material for farmers and adults in the mountain communities; make the training material adeguate and user-friendly; make the material accessible to everyone; enrich the network to faciltate collaboration between centres in the education domain and farmers working in mountain areas.

Celebration of the 47th White Truffle festivity in Sant'Angelo in Vado (PU) - Italy

On October 9th 2010 the Mayor of Sant'Angelo in Vado - Settimio Bravi, opened the 47th White Truffle festivity that lasted for 3 weeks.

A lot of people participated to celebrate the tasty local product from the rich mountains of the Medio alto Metauro - participants from all over Italy and Europe.

Settimio Bravi says "I'm proud to host personalities from entertainment and political environment since the white truffle is a peculiarity to promote the territory and other mountain products".

Article about EduMont meeting in Chalkis, Greece

Mrs Elena Repezis, representative of the Iaslovat community from Suceava county, who as a learner with the support of Green Origins Club, attended the 3rd meeting of the project team in Chalkis, Evia Island in Greece; wrote an interesting article about this, and posted it on the internet platform www.ecomunitate.ro. The social-environmental framework

The environmental goods of the territory are very important for the growth of tourism. The warm sea, or a nice lake and mountains with beautiful landscape are as precious as the historical or artistic monuments.

Last years it has changed the way of doing tourism and the offers should be modified too. It means that the final destination of holidays is chosen in the last minutes and the touristic industry should be able to offer/manage interesting facilities in a short time. The SHORT STAY and the stressful way of life contribute a need to live closer to the nature.

To promote a landscape and education by sport we need to show potential of the territory. One of the possibility is the organization of a sport event.

All sports activities should be well promoted by internet, local and specialized press and local institutions (schools, associations,...). Only the synergy of different partners (public and private) and experiences could offer a good final results.

Another important thing is to keep the interests of the tourists by dissemination of information and active collaboration with tour operators and local government.

Bouldering
Bouldering is a style of climbing emphasizing power, strength, and dynamics.

The International meeting of bouldering
Its focus is on individual moves or short sequences of moves, unlike traditional climbing or sport climbing which generally demand more endurance over longer stretches of rock where the difficulty of individual moves is not as great. Boulder routes are commonly referred to as problems (a British appellation) because the nature of the climb is often short, curious, and much like problem solving. Sometimes these problems are eliminates, meaning certain artificial restrictions are imposed. Bouldering is more focused on the technique of climbing instead of undertaking a full bodied climb.

To reduce the risk of injury from a fall, climbers rarely go higher than 3-5 meters above the ground. Anything over 7 meters is generally considered to be free soloing (or simply 'soloing'), although such climbs might also be termed high-ball bouldering problems. For further protection, climbers typically put a bouldering mat (crash pad) on the ground to break their fall. Lastly, climbers often have one or more spotters, who work to direct the climber's body toward the crash pad during a fall, while protecting the climber's head from hazards.

Bouldering is increasing in popularity; bouldering areas are common in indoor climbing gyms and some climbing gyms are dedicated solely to bouldering. Children are joining the sport now as well as adults. In fact, studies have found that young climbers develop better skills as adults from their experience with youthful disadvantages such as height and strength.[

The international games of orienteering
Orienteering is a family of sports that requires navigational skills using a map and compass to navigate from point to point in diverse and usually unfamiliar terrain. Participants are given a map, usually a specially prepared orienteering map, which they use to find control points. Originally a training exercise in land navigation for military officers, orienteering has developed many variations. Among these, the oldest and the most popular is foot orienteering . For the purposes of this article, foot orienteering serves as a point of departure for discussion of all other variations, but basically any sport that involves racing against a clock and requires navigation using a map is a type of orienteering.

Orienteering is included in the programs of world sporting events including the World Games.

Orienteering sports combine significant navigation with a specific method of travel. Because the method of travel determines the needed equipment and tactics, each sport requires specific rules for competition and guidelines for orienteering event logistics and course design.

The goals of the event

This kind of event proposed in collaboration with National Parks, sports associations and media could be a sort of advertisement for local landscape.

The event is going to build an interest around the National Park (or another proper place to practice those sports) and marketing is going to attract the people.

Those sports are practiced into the wild nature and with no ecological impact.

It can be also a different way of living tourism.

An observation of the landscape allows us to understand that the present situation of environment is a consequence of (our) men past actions. The perception of the nature is determined by our cultural consciousness.

Second project meeting in Potenza

The second project meeting was held in Potenza on 12-14 April 2010.

Partners from Romania and Greece participated in the meeting, to continue the development of the activities of the project.
The group was able to analyse two different examples of sports used in education to mountains and mountain areas: bouldering and orienteering.

A needs analysis questionnaire will be published very soon to understand the needs of people living in the mountain area and how the project can support the development of resources (in terms of people; and area).

First Project meeting in Suceava

The Edu-Mont partnership team is in Suceava at the moment discussing about the activites to be carried out for the next two years of the project.

EDU-Mont is a grundtvig partnership funded by the European Union in the Socrates-Grundtvig framework.
The project aims to share experiences and best practices on using mountain specificity as learning resources and better integration of people living in mountain areas.
